Summer Knitting

In the winter I love knitting sweaters, as the big projects keep me nice and warm. However, in the summer I prefer smaller things. The Back Country hat is a fun and fast moving project. This is a great project for the beginner knitter, as this small project is knitted in garter stitch (knit all rows) on US 7 straight needles. The Stork yarn from Dale of Norway has been discontinued. This photo shows you how much we have left, which is not a lot. We have removed the color card and order button from our website. If you are in need of single balls, feel free to email us. We will email you back an updated inventory list and how to order. The following colors are completely sold out: 11 rose, 12 red and 115 mango variegated. Dale of Norway is working on a replacement cotton, and we hope to be able to offer you a Dale of Norway cotton in 2010. Stork yarn is completely interchangeable with the Baby Ull from Dale. The Baby Ull is a 100 % merino wool.

Strawberry season

This design brings back fond memories from my native Norway. As a child I loved to pick wild strawberries and string them on a straw. I was so proud when I held up the straw full of warm, sweet tiny berries. It had taken me hours to fill it! As a teenager I had a summer job picking strawberries at a farm. I had to get up at 4:30 am to be out in the field by 6:00. Our hands were moving fast so the farmer could bring the freshly picked berries to the market for the first customers of the day. Later in the day we were allowed to eat as many strawberries as we wanted. At night I would dream about strawberries. No wonder why I like this design so much.

Lillehammer

This gorgeous sweater was designed for the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. At the time Dale released a pattern book with Lillehammer sweaters and accessories for the whole family. We sold our last copy about ten years ago. The good news is that you can find this pattern in the Family Pattern book #147 also known as the Dale 125th Anniversary book. The sizes are adult S to XL, child sizes 2-12 years, plus many accessories such as adult headband, cap and mittens plus child size stockings, mittens and stocking cap. All items are knitted in Heilo/Falk. In 1994 I knitted the Lillehammer sweater in matching colors for me and one of our daughters who was six years old at the time. It was so much fun, very addictive to knit and it was impossible to put my knitting down. Fifteen years later this design still amazes me. It is a true classic. Goodbye HAUK

The Hauk yarn has been discontinued. The good news is that Hauk is completely interchangeable with Heilo and Falk from Dale of Norway, which means you can use Heilo or Falk on any pattern that calls for Hauk. You might wonder what the difference between the three yarns is. The Heilo yarn is a 100% pure new wool. The Falk is like Heilo, but superwash. The Hauk is like Heilo, but has been Teflon coated which makes it water repellent. We are sold out of some of the Hauk colors, and have less than a full bag left of the other colors. Right now you will find three balls of Funny yarn plus a pattern for a scarf, hat and headband. Three balls is enough to make a hat-scarf set or a headband-scarf set if you start with the head piece first. Great gift for a knitting friend, or keep it your self. The hat is knitted in around on a 16 inch circular needle US 8. Scarf and headband are knitted back and forth in garter stitch on a US 8. The Funny yarn is nice to knit with, just be careful not to drop any stitches. The furry loops can be tricky to pick up if you drop them! Did you know that Dale has designed 9 free patterns for you to enjoy. A short cardigan in Svale and Lerke (shown) and five other patterns for women including a lacy shrug, pullover with purse, a cardigan, a tank top and a shoulder shrug. For kids you can find a crochet cap and garter stitch scarf, a slip stitch cap with mittens and a spiral strip crochet cap. These patterns are just like the patterns you normally pay for and include color photos and detailed instructions.
